Heading into their South Coast Conference game against East Los Angeles College on Thursday, the Cerritos College softball team had won 12 games in a row against their opponents. But a lone run in the third inning turned out to be the difference, as the Huskies (5-3, 3-1) posted a 1-0 win over the Falcons (5-5, 3-1). Cerritos will now travel to Compton to take on ECC Compton Center in a 3:00 p.m. conference game on Tuesday. The Tartars (10-1) are off to their start in school history and have never defeated the Falcons.

In the loss to the Huskies, Heather Saucedo led off the third inning with a walk and advanced to second base on a ground out. With two outs, Larissa Munoz doubled to right-center field, which proved to be the game-winning run. Falcon pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) allowed seven hits on the day and worked out of several situaltions. But the Cerritos offense wasn't able to get on track.

The Falcons collected just two hits off pitcher Alashnee Medina, who struck out eight batters. In the second inning, sophomore outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) reached on an error and stole second base, but was stranded. With two outs in the third inning, freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) singled, stole second, but could not advance. The other hit for Cerritos came in the seventh inning when sophomore Haley Whitney (Warren HS) led off with a walk, while Hernandez reached in an infield single with one out. But freshman catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) popped up and freshman Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) fouled off three straight pitched before bouncing back to the pitcher to end the game.
