The Cerritos College softball team used a seven-run second inning to help them post a 9-0 South Coast Conference win over Long Beach City College at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday. The win evened the Falcons record at 4-4 on the year, while they are 3-0 in conference play. They will host Ventura College at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday in a non-conference game.

Highlighting the seven-run inning was a two-run single by freshman Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS), while sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS) added a two-run double to help the cause. Sophomore pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) and freshman catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) each added run-scoring singles.

Ramirez picked up the pitching win by scattering four hits and was not affected by three defensive miscues along the way. She left Rayleen Pallan on third base in the first inning when she got a pair of ground outs, while the Vikings (3-6, 1-2) stranded runners on first and second in the second and third innings. They also had runners on first and second in the fifth inning, but Ramirez recorded the final out to secure the shutout.

Cerritos ended the game in the bottom of the sixth inning on a two-run single by sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS). On the day, Mejia had a pair of hits and drew two walks, with Ramirez and Perruccio also adding a pair of hits.
