Softball: Cerritos rebounds with conference win

Looking to snap a two-game losing streak, the Cerritos College softball team pounded out 14 hits, as they posted an 8-3 South Coast Conference win over ECC Compton Center on Tuesday. The Falcons (28-10, 16-3), locked in a first place tie with East Los Angeles College, have two more conference games left on their schedule. They will travel to El Camino College on Thursday for a 3:00 p.m. game and then close out with a home game against Los Angeles Harbor College next Tuesday.

Cerritos opened up a 6-0 lead over the Tartars (17-17, 5-14), thanks to several extra base hits in the fourth and fifth innings. After sophomore pitcher Jamie Ramirez (El Rancho HS) led off the fourth inning with a double, she was driven in on a two-base hit by sophomore shortstop Stephanie Olivas (Warren HS). Before the end of the inning, freshman catcher Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) clubbed a run-scoring triple.

Sophomore outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS) drove in a run with a base hit in the sixth inning and ended the scoring with a two-run double in the seventh inning. Freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) went 3-for-5 at the plate with two runs scored, while she stole a pair of bases. As for Ramirez, she pitched a complete game to improve to 16-8 in the circle, while she went 3-for-4 at the plate.
