With their 5-4 loss to East Los Angeles College on Thursday, the Cerritos College softball team is now in a tie for first place in the South Coast Conference with the Huskies. The Falcons (27-9, 15-3) have three more conference games, while the Huskies (26-8, 15-3) have now won two of the three meetings this season. The team will host Santiago Canyon College (26-4) on Monday at 3:00 p.m. in a rain make-up game from February.

In the loss, Cerritos was able to tie the game at 4-4 with a run in the top of the sixth inning when sophomore outfielder Arianna Hernandez (Santa Fe HS) drew a bases loaded walk with two outs. However, in the bottom of the seventh inning, ELAC scored the game-winning run on a base hit by Breanna Takanaka off losing pitcher Kat Flores (El Rancho HS).

The Falcons opened a 1-0 lead in the second inning after sophomore first baseman Haley Whitney (Warren HS) led off with a double and scored on a double by sophomore outfielder Danah Vasquez (Santa Fe HS). The Huskies scored four runs in the bottom of the fourth inning, but Cerritos fought back in the top of the fifth to get two of those runs back.

Vasquez (3-for-3) led off with a base hit and after she was sacrificed to second, freshman second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) responded with a two-out, run-scoring single. Freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) followed with an RBI single. Cerritos had a chance to score in the seventh inning, but left Perruccio on second base.
