A pair of home runs, including a three-run shot by Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS), paced the Cerritos College softball team to an 8-2 non-conference win over Cypress College on Saturday at Nancy Kelly Field. The win improved the Falcons record to 26-8 overall, as they resume South Coast Conference play Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when they host Long Beach City College.

Purkey (pictured, left) greeted a 1-2 offering from Desiree Lopez over the center field fence for a home run and 4-0 lead. The run support would be enough for Ramirez, who pitched the first 4 1/3 innings.

The Chargers (22-9) did get as close as 4-2 in the top of the fifth inning, but Cerritos responded with a solo home run from Ramirez, and added three more in the sixth inning. Sophomore third baseman Ariana Mejia (Gahr HS) provided a two-run single, with freshman outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) slapping in a run before stealing her 35th base of the season.

Sophomore Kat Flores (El Rancho HS) earned her second save of the season by pitching the final 2 2/3 innings. On the day, both Mejia and Purkey drove in three runs, while Perruccio, Whitney and Ramirez recorded a pair of hits.
