Weather cut the Cerritos College softball team's plans at the College of the Desert Tournament over the weekend. Scheduled to play four games in two days, rain washed out the first two games, but the Falcons did play twice and split them. After dropping a 4-2 decision to Santiago Canyon College, they rebounded with an 11-2 win over the host Roadrunners in five innings. Cerritos (3-1) will now host Cypress College at 2:30 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cerritos vs. Santiago Canyon: After spotting the Hawks a 1-0 lead heading into the bottom of the fourth inning, the Falcons were able to tie the game on a pinch-hit RBI single by freshman Karissa Hamilton (Long Beach Wilson HS). Singles by both sophomore second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) and freshman third baseman Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) was followed by a walk to sophomore first baseman Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) to load the bases. But that would be the only run in the inning, as Santiago Canyon recorded two straight outs to end the threat. Cerritos scored their second run in the sixth inning after falling behind 3-1. Petruccelli reached on a fielder's choice, and after freshman Cheyann Samuelson (Western HS) drew a walk, sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) reached on an error, which brought home Petruccelli. The Hawks added an insurance run in the seventh inning.

Cerritos vs. College of the Desert: The Falcons scored runs in the first four innings to take a comfortable lead. They opened with a pair of runs in the top of the first inning when Navarro singled home Perruccio, while Ramirez brought home a run on a sacrifice fly. Navarro added an RB single in the second inning and a two-run triple in the third inning to help Cerritos pull away. Perruccio recorded a three-run inside-the-park home run in the fourth inning, while freshman third baseman Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS) clubbed a solo home run in the third inning. Navarro also pitched a complete game and surrendered two runs on eight hits.
