With their 12-3 loss in five innings to host Palomar College in their CCCAA Super Regional Playoff game on Saturday, the Cerritos College softball team's season is now on the brink of elimination. The Falcons (25-18), seeded #11 for the playoffs, must now win four consecutive games to advance to the state championships. Their first test will be on Sunday at 2:00 p.m., as they take on either El Camino College or Citrus College. With a win, they would play again at 4:00 p.m., while a loss ends their season.

Cerritos had no answer for the powerful bats of the Comets (36-3-1), who are seeded #1 for the playoffs. Assisting Palomar in the second inning was an error, while two more errors in the fourth inning led to four more runs. In the first inning, sophomore pitcher Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS/Caldwell (NJ) College) waked the first two batters, who both came home on a base hit by Iesha Hill. Kali Pugh clubbed a three-run home run in the second inning to put the team behind, 6-1, with Stephanie Koishor adding a two-run home run in the third inning for Palomar.

The offense for the Falcons came in the way of an RBI single and a two-run base hit by sophomore first baseman Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS). She drove in freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) in the third inning and brought in a pair in the fourth inning. In that stanza, Cerritos looked to put more runs on the board after they loaded the bases with one out. But a line drive by sophomore second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) turned into an inning-ending double play and halted the threat.

On the day, Collazo and Petruccelli each had two hits, while sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) reached base twice.
