Softball: Big inning leads Falcons to 9-5 win

Knotted in a 3-3 tie with host Grossmont College on Saturday, the Cerritos College softball team scored five times in the top of the fifth inning to help them to a 9-5 win. The victor puts the Falcons a 5-2 on the year, as they prepare to open South Coast Conference play on Tuesday at 3:00 p.m. when they host Pasadena City College.

Pitchers Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS/Caldwell (NJ) College) and Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) combined to hold off the Griffins, who collected 12 hits on the day. The Falcons also had 12 hits in the win, with sophomore Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) leading the way with a trio of hits and drove in a pair of runs.

Navarro drove in a run and scored twice, while sophomore Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) also had a pair of hits and scored three times for Cerritos.
