Sophomore Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) set a new Cerritos College softball school record when she stole second base in the second inning of the team's 13-5 South Coast Conference win over East Los Angeles College at Nancy Kelly Field on Tuesday. The outfielder nabbed her 49th career stolen base to break the record of 48 steals by Capreee Williams, who amassed that total in just one season (2008). Perruccio led the state with 44 steals last season and picked up her fifth of the season in the six-inning win over the Huskies.

It was a close 5-4 game heading into the bottom of the third inning, but Cerritos (8-2, 3-0) got a lead-off solo home run from sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) in the third. They broke the game open when sophomore third baseman Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) blasted a two-out grand slam, her second of the season.

Freshman pitcher Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) struggled with her control in the game, allowing 10 hits and five walks. But she received offensive support, as her teammates recorded seven extra base hits.

Cano went 2-for-2 with a pair of walks and scored three times, while sophomore first baseman Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) clubbed a pair of doubles. Freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) added a pair of hits, with freshman outfielder Jasmine Javier (Cerritos HS) reaching base three times and scoring twice.

Cerritos will host ECC Compton Center in another conference game at 3:00 p.m. on Thursday.
