Over the years, there have been some impressive hitting performances by Cerritos College softball players. And the day that freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) had at the plate Thursday afternoon against Pasadena City College can be added to the list. Collazo hit a pair of home runs and drove in eight runs to help the Falcons post a 13-5 South Coast Conference win over the Lancers. The team will now travel to Citrus College on Friday for a 2:30 p.m. game against the host Owls and then take on Fullerton College at 4:45 p.m. in a pair of non-conference games.

Collazo drove in her first run of the day in the third inning on a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 2-2 and then launched a grand slam in the fourth inning to put the team up, 7-3. It was her first home run of the season. She added another sacrifice fly in the fifth inning and capped her day off with a two-run home run in the top of the seventh inning to finish the scoring.

Sophomore starting pitcher Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS/Caldwell (NJ) College) had her struggles in the first two innings, as she allowed three runs on three hits. Freshman Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) came on in relief and earned the win by finishing the final five innings. Navarro (8-1) also went 3-for-4 at the plate with a pair of RBI.

Sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) contributed a solo home run, while sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) reached base three times, drove in a pair and scored twice. She injured herself crashing into the outfield wall on a home run ball by Holly Riker-Sloan, but remained in the game.
