Holding what appeared to be a comfortable 7-3 lead heading into the seventh inning, a two-out error by the Cerritos College softball team opened the door for Cypress College to score five times and come away with an 8-7 win on Tuesday. The Falcons (3-2) will now travel to Santiago Canyon College on Friday for a 2:00 p.m. game. The Hawks defeated Cerritos, 4-2 over the weekend at the College of the Desert Tournament.

With one out and runners on first and second, sophomore Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS, Caldwell (NJ) College) came on in relief of freshman Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS). After recording the second out of the inning, Jezz Portillo drove in a run with a base hit. That was followed by a throwing error from Navarro, who moved to third base when she left the circle. It opened the door for Taylor Pierce to club a three-run home run to complete the comeback for the Chargers (1-0).

Cerritos broke open a 7-3 lead with five runs in the bottom of the fourth inning. Sophomore Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) hit a solo home run to tie the game at 3-3. After sophomore second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) singled with two outs, consecutive errors by Cypress allowed the Falcons to score four more times. Freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) and Navarro each drove in runs with base hits in the inning.

After spotting the Chargers a 2-0 lead in the top of the first inning, sophomore first baseman Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) drilled a two-run home run to tie the game.
