Continuing their road trip where they were scheduled to play 13 of 14 games away from home, the Cerritos College softball team exploded for seven runs in the sixth inning to put away host Riverside City College, 10-2 on Monday. The Falcons, who have gone 4-4 on the trip so far (including three postponed games and one protested contest), resume South Coast Conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Compton to take on ECC Compton Center.

Leading 3-0 heading into the sixth inning, Cerritos (14-6) unleased on the Tigers (6-14) for seven runs to record the mercy victory. Sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) led off with a single and pinch-runner Roxanna Jensen (Havre, MT HS) scored on a double by freshman Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS). Freshman Cheyann Samuelson (Western HS) followed with a bunt single, with Navarro scoring on a throwing error. After Samuelson stole second base, sophomore first baseman Haley Petruccelli (Torrance HS) blasted a two-run home run.

The inning continued with freshman Raquel Norzagary (Pioneer HS) clubbing a double, while sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) drew a walk. Sophomore third baseman Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) doubed them both home, while Jensen rounded out the scoring with a sacrifice fly.

Sophomore pitcher Ana Pedroza (La Mirada HS/Caldwell (NJ) University) pitched the first four innings and did not allow a run to earn the win, with Navarro tossing the final two stanzas.

Perruccio finished the day 2-for-3 with three runs scored, two stolen bases and a walk, while Cano Norzagary and freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) also had a pair of hits.
