The Cerritos College softball team broke open a close 3-2 game by scoring the next eight runs to post an 11-2 South Coast Conference win in five innings at Long Beach City College on Thursday. It was a 3-2 lead for Cerritos heading into the top of the third inning. Freshman pitcher Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) opened the inning by reaching base on a dropped fly ball and advanced to second base on a base hit by sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS). Sophomore second baseman Monique Ramirez (Torrance HS) sacrificed the runners and with two outs, freshman pinch-hitter Karissa Hamilton (Long Beach Wilson HS) drew a walk to load the bases. Sophomore outfielder Joanna Perruccio (Long Beach Wilson HS) was hit by a pitch to drive in a run, while sophomore third baseman Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) drew a walk to bring in a run.

In the team's six-run fifth inning, Cano drove in her fourth and fifth runs of the game with a two-run single, while Navarro (5-0) and Ramirez both doubled in a pair of runs. Navarro earned the win by allowing two runs on four hits and struck out two batters.
