Trailing by six runs heading into the top of the seventh inning, the Cerritos College softball team fell short in an 8-5 South Coast Conference loss on Tuesday. The setback against Mt. San Antonio College dropped the Falcons (11-4, 6-1) into second place in the South Coast Conference. The team will travel to Pasadena City College on Thursday for a 2:00 p.m. conference game.

In the top of the seventh inning, freshman shortstop Jenny Collazo (Paramount HS) drew a one-out walk, and after she advanced to second base on a sacrifice, sophomore third baseman Crystal Cano (Norwalk HS/Lynn (FL) University) drove her in with a base hit. Sophomore catcher Krystal Purkey (Gahr HS) followed with a two-run home run to draw the team to within 8-5. It was Purkey's third career home run against the Mounties.

Mt. SAC took a 4-0 lead against freshman pitcher Jennifer Navarro (Warren HS) after three innings, which resulted in her first loss in the circle this season (7-1). After Navarro cut the deficit in half with a two-run blast in the top of the fourth inning, the Mounties added a single run in the fifth inning and capped it off with three more in the sixth inning.
