With losses in five of their last six games, the Cerritos College softball team is now playing the waiting game to find out of they will be one of the 16 teams selected for the Southern California Regional Playoffs. The Falcons (23-16) concluded their regular season on Wednesday with a 9-1 loss to Palomar College in a make-up game from March 14 that was rained out. The team also finished in third place in the competitive South Coast Conference.

Even with their struggles at the end of the season, Cerritos has maintained a very high RPI ranking due to their difficult playing schedule all season. On the year, the Falcons have faced 14 of the teams ranked in the top 20 in RPI and have a 10-14 record. They finished the regular season ranked #9 in the RPI in Southern California, which tabulates a team's power ranking basked on their success and strength of schedule.

In the loss to the top-ranked Comets, the Falcons took an early 1-0 lead in the second inning, but surrendered three runs in the bottom of the stanza and never recovered. Cerritos had just two hits on the day.
