After three games this season, the Cerritos College women's soccer team has outscored their opponents, 15-1. The Falcons, the two-time defending State and National Champions, handed host Cosumnes River College a 5-0 decision on Saturday. The team will now play their first home game on Tuesday at 4:00 p.m. when they host Los Angeles Pierce College. Cerritos will have a pre-game ceremony for Jasmine Cornejo, who passed away on August 4 and was a member of both national championship teams. Admission for the game will be $5 with all proceeds going to the Cornejo family.

In the win over the Hawks, the Falcons scored in the 10th minute and then added four second half goals to put the game out of reach. On the first goal, sophomore Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) gained control of an errant clearing pass on the right side of the field and crossed a pass to sophomore Ashley Anaya-Webb (Yorba Linda HS/Cal State Long Beach) at the back post and she put the ball away for her team-leading fifth goal of the season.

Cerritos continued to put pressure on the Cosumnes River defense and they finally broke through in the second half with a pair of goals in five minutes. In the 60th minute, freshman Esmeralda Verdugo (Ensenada BC, Mexico HS) took a free kick outside the box on the left side and saw her shot go through the goalkeeper's hands for a goal. Verdugo had a hand in the third goal of the game, as she sent a free kick from 30 yards out to the back post, where freshman Cheyenne D'Aquila (El Modena HS) headed the ball into the net in the 65th minute.

In the final minutes of the game, the Falcons added two more goals, with the final one coming on a penalty kick by sophomore Carolina Ornelas (Artesia HS) in the 85th minute after she was taken down in the box after taking on two players. An aggressive play by Requejo led the the fourth goal in the 80th minute. After a bad clearing pass, the ball got played back to the Hawks goalie, with freshman Kimberly Oliveras (East Career & Technical Academy, NV HS) crashing into the goal to gain possession of the ball. After it came free, Requejo gained control and took on three defenders before scoring her third goal of the season.

Cerritos maintained control of the ball for most of the game, which required sophomore goalkeeper Adrianna Salazar (Downey HS) to make just two saves in earning her third win of the year.
