With 12 minutes left in their South Coast Conference game, the Cerritos College women's soccer team was holding a 1-0 lead over Long Beach City College on Tuesday. But as they have done all season, the Falcons wore down their opponent and had the perfect 1-2 combination to change the score quickly. In a span of 1:26, sophomores Ashley Anaya-Webb (Yorba Linda HS/Cal State Long Beach) and Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) accounted for three goals to help post a 4-0 win. Cerritos (14-1-0, 8-1-0) has now won eight games in a row and have outscored their opponents, 49-0 during that stretch. This Friday at 4:00 p.m., the team will host ECC Compton Center in another conference match.

It was a scoreless first half, but the team came out with an aggressive second half plan and needed only 1:10 to take a 1-0 lead, as Requejo scored her 22nd goal of the season with sophomore Dianne Miranda (Tustin HS/Santiago Canyon College) getting the assist.

Cerritos had control of the ball for the majority of the contest and turned to sophomore Adrianna Salazar (Downey HS) when a save was necessary. She turned away all three shots to earn her 11th shutout of the season. Salazar received help on defense from sophomores Clara Gomez (El Modena HS), Kassie Olivas (Laguna Hills HS) and Alex Kidd (La Serna HS/Long Island Brooklyn (NY) University), along with freshman Makayla Mendoza (Palm Desert HS/Pikeville (KY) University

Just when it looked as though the game might end in a 1-0 decision, Anaya-Webb scored in the 79th minute and then again in the 80th minute to give her a state-leading 30 goals. Between her two goals, Requejo picked up her 23rd goal and is second in the state. Requejo, who leads the state with 71 points, also collected an assist to give her a state-leading 25 on the year. The 30 goals by Anaya-Webb are the fourth most in a season in school history, with Monique Cisneros holding the record of 36 set in 2008. Requejo already broke the record for most assists in a season.
