Continuing to combine offensive output with defensive prowess, the Cerritos College women's soccer team posted their sixth straight South Coast Conference win, as they defeated visiting El Camino College, 11-1 on Tuesday. The goal they allowed was their first in six games and was only the third goal allowed all season. Next up for the Falcons will be East Los Angeles College, who snapped the team's 37-match unbeaten streak, 1-0 back on September 30. The Huskies (8-3-2, 5-1-1) are currently one point behind Cerritos in the conference standings.
Against the Warriors (2-12-0, 1-6-0), the Falcons were met with little resistance and seemed to score at will. It allowed sophomore Ashley Anaya-Webb (Yorba Linda HS/Cal State Long Beach) to increase her state-leading goal total to 26, with East LA's Carla Quijada her closest competition at 21 goals. Anaya-Webb scored three straight goals to turn a 5-0 lead into an 8-0 advantage in the span of 3:26, which also overlapped the two halves. Her 58 points in the season trail only sophomore Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS), who set a new school record in the win.
On the team's third goal of the game, Requejo (pictured, left) broke the single-season school record for most assists in a season. It was her 21st on the year, eclipsing the old mark of 20 by Nancy Gandarilla in 2009. Requejo tacked on a second assist in the second half and also tallied two goals to lead the state with 60 points on the year. Her first assist came on the second goal of the half for sophomore Celinna Montano (Warren HS), whose shot went through the hands of ECC goalkeeper Melissa Paramo. Montano also opened the scoring in the fourth minute of the game on a header from a pass by Anaya-Webb.
Freshman Tiffany Castillo (Artesia HS) added a goal and two assists, while sophomore Cassie Reyes (Bishop Amat HS) scored her second of the year and sophomore Jazmin Aguas (San Pasqual HS) recorded her first goal of the year in just her third game. Sophomore goalkeeper Adrianna Salazar (Downey HS) lowered her goals against average to 0.20 with 45 minutes of shutout play. Freshman Savannah Pilovsky (Fullerton HS) surrendered the lone Warrior goal in the 66th minute.
