Cerritos College sophomore soccer player Nayeli Requejo (Bishop Amat HS) scored more goals in the month of October than 20 schools did all season. Requejo, the state leader in points and assists on the season, scored 20 times for the Falcons in nine games in October and was voted the CCCAA Female Athlete of the Month. She scored in all nine games, including a pair of four-goal games for Cerritos, who are preparing to play their Southern California Regional Playoff game on Saturday with a chance to advance to the State Final Four.

Along with her 20 goals in the month, Requejo had 12 assists, which propelled her to the top of the state list and also broke the college's single-season and career assist total. In her career, Requejo has now scored 62 goals with 42 assists for 166 points in 47 games. She holds every career scoring record, as well as the single-season assist record (28). Only teammate Ashley Anaya-Webb, who has a school-record 41 goals this season, has preventer her from the single-season goals record.

Requejo becomes the ninth Cerritos athlete to be named the Female Athlete of the Month and first since softball player Shelby Blair received the award in February, 2012. The last Falcon women's soccer player to earn the award was Corina Villegas, who received it in December, 2008. Villegas was the state's first two-time recipient, earning her first AOTM in November, 2007 and Requejo now joins Villegas and Monique Cisneros (October, 2008) as one of three Cerritos women's soccer players to be recognized by the state.
