The Cerritos College women's tennis team opened their 2014 season with a solid 7-2 non-conference win over visiting Irvine Valley College on Tuesday. The Falcons (1-0), who won five of their seven singles matches, will now travel to Riverside City College for a 2:00 p.m. match on Friday.

Leading the way for Cerritos were sophomore Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) and freshman Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS), who each won their singles matches and then teamed for a double victory. Judan ousted Renee Walton, 6-1, 6-2 in the #1 singles match and then teamed with Flores for an 8-6 win in doubles action. Flores escaped playing a third set against Ruth Chou in singles with a 6-2, 7-6(4) win.

The pairing of sophomores Rianna Ilagan (Bellflower HS) and Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) produced three more team points, as they teamed for an 8-4 doubles win and then posted singles victories. Ilagan, in the #4 position, swept past Marissa Woolsey, 6-0, 6-0, with Perez needing three sets to defeat Parmida Dornaz, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2. The team's other win came in #6 singles, as sophomore Staci Gonzalez (Vista del Lago HS) posted a 6-3, 6-0 win.
