The Cerritos College women's tennis team opened their South Coast Conference match at El Camino on Thursday with teams playing doubles. After several closely contested matches were completed, the Falcons trailed, 2-1 and knew they had to win four of the six singles matches to pull out the victory. Unfortunately, the team split the six singles matches and suffered a 5-4 loss, which drops their record to 7-2 overall and 1-1 in conference play. Cerritos was scheduled to host Palomar College in a non-conference match on Friday, but rain will wash it away.

Doubles play saw the Falcons win a tie-breaker in the #3 match, as sophomores Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS) and Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS) remained undefeated with a 9-8(7) victory. The tough loss came in the #2 position, with sophomores Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) and Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) dropping an 8-6 score.

After four of the singles matches are finished, with both teams winning two of them, it all came down to the #1 and #5 matches, which were extended to a third set. At the top of the ladder, sophomore Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) lost the first set to Rose Sgolsutyatorn, 6-4, but rebounded for a 6-4 win in the second set. The match was decided when Sgolsutyatorn won the final set, 6-2. With the match decided, the remaining match moved to a tie-breaker, where Perez recorded a 7-6, 4-6, 10-8 win.
