W. Tennis: Falcons have one doubles team left

With one day left in the South Coast Conference Tournament, the Cerritos College women's team has one doubles pairing that has reached the semifinals. The Falcons, who are serving as the host of the tournament, will send the tandem of sophomores Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) onto the court at 4:00 p.m. and are two wins away from the championship.

On Friday, the duo eliminated teammates Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) and NataliPerez (Lakewood HS) by an 8-1 score. The top eight teams in both singles and doubles advance to the Southern California Regional Tournament, who both will be advancing. They will be taking on Leticia Dos Santos and Laura Arruda, who they defeated, 8-6 in their only meeting this season.

Both Judan and Flores have advanced in singles play, although they each were defeated in the quarterfinals. Judan opened her day with a 6-0, 6-0 victory over Barbara Haikel of College of the Desert, but was then defeated, 7-5, 6-0 against Shayla Fulton of El Camino College, who is their #2 singles player. The top singles player for the Warriors, Rose Sgolsutyatorn, defeated Flores, 6-0, 6-1 in another of the quarterfinals.
