The Cerritos College women's tennis team was met with very little resistance in their 8-1 non-conference win at San Diego Mesa on Tuesday. With their win, the Falcons improved to 3-0 on the season and will now host Cypress College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

In singles play, Cerritos posted a sweep, which secured the team victory. Although all of their wins were by straight sets, the top three players in the ladder had to hold off the Olympians to pick up their victories. At the top, sophomore Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) posted a 6-4 win in the first set against Sophie Nejera and then avoided a third set with a 7-6 win. As for freshman Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS), she posted a 6-2, 6-4 win in the #2 position, while sophomore Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) handed Erika Castro a 6-3, 6-4 setback.

Sophomores Natali Perez (Lakewood HS), who won, 6-1, 6-1 and Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS), with her 6-2, 6-4 win, continued to play well this season. Stepping in for her first singles match of the season was sophomore Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS), who defeated Teresa Garcia, 6-2, 6-2 in the #6 position.

Although the Falcons top doubles team of Judan and Flores suffered their first loss of the year, Ilagan and Perez (8-3), along with Gonzales and Alcayde (8-0) were both winners. It was the first doubles appearance for Gonzales.
