The Cerritos College women's tennis team knew they would have to face Mt. San Antonio twice on Tuesday in a South Coast Conference match. The Falcons and Mounties had their February 25 match suspended due to darkness and decided at the time to finish it a month later when the two teams met up at Cerritos. The Falcons (11-4, 6-3) will now host El Camino College at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday.

Cerritos vs. Mt. San Antonio (February 25): Trailing 4-2 after singles were finished a month ago, the Falcons needed to win all three doubles matches to post the team vistory. The #2 and #3 doubles teams recorded close wins, but the top team was defeated, 8-5. Sophomores Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) and Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) posted an 8-6 win, while sophomores Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS) and Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS) pulled out a 9-8(2) victory. But it was the team of sophomore Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) and freshman Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) that dropped an 8-5 decision. The two suffered losses in singles play, with Flores going three sets against Tran Bui, but losing, 4-6, 6-4, 5-7.

Cerritos vs. Mt. San Antonio (March 25): The tables were flipped in the regularly scheduled match, as the Falcons won four of the six singles competitions. The big difference was that Judan (6-3, 6-4) and Flores (7-6, 4-6, 6-4) were able to post wins in the top two positions. It was the first win in four meetings for Judan over Bautista. And just as they did in the first meeting, Perez won a three-set decision against Amethyst Berecochea, 6-0, 4-6, 6-4, while Gonzales recorded a 6-1, 6-3 victory

The doubles matches were equally as competitive as the ones that started the day, but it was the Mounties that needed to sweep all three to pull out the victory. But Judan and Ilagan put that decision to rest when they posted an 8-6 win. The other two doubles matches were hotly contested, with Flores and Perez (9-7), along with Gonzales and Alcayde (9-8) suffering losses.
