Taking on the newest member of the South Coast Conference, the Cerritos College women's tennis team made quick work of host Victor Valley College on Thursday by posting a 9-0 win. The Falcons improved to 6-0 on the year and 1-0 in conference play. They will step away from conference play on Tuesday when they travel to Fullerton College for a 2:00 p.m. match.

With only five players, the Rams were forced to forfeit one singles and one doubles match. But that didn't slow down Cerritos, who posted straight set sweeps in singles and lost only two games in doubles play. The only close set of the day came in the #1 singles match, as sophomore Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) held off Alexis Mariano, 6-2, 7-6.

The remainder of the singles matches were comfortable wins, with freshman Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) and sophomore Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) each winning by 6-1, 6-0 scores. Sophomore Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) handed Kimberly Gonzalez a 6-2, 6-2 setback in the #4 position, with sophomore Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS) shutting out Sarah Yousef, 6-0, 6-0.

The top doubles tandem of Judan and Flores took the day off from competing together, with Flores joined by freshman Merli Alcasid (Gahr HS), who was seeing her first action of the season. They posted an 8-1 win, as did Ilagan and Perez in the #1 position.
