The Cerritos College women's tennis team earned a pair of wins while in Fresno over the weekend. The Falcons (13-5) opened with a 5-4 win over the host Rams (16-1) before recording a 7-2 victory over Reedley College (8-7). This week, the team will travel to Rio Hondo College for a 2:00 p.m. South Coast Conference match before hosting first place College of the Desert at 2:00 p.m. on Thursday in their final match of the season.

Cerritos vs. Fresno City: The match came down to the #6 singles position, where sophomore Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS) fought back after dropping the first set to Mai Lor, 4-6. She evened the match with a 6-1 win in the second set and continued to dominate, posting a 6-1 win in the third set to secure the win and hand the Rams their first loss of the year. Coming back to post a win avoided Gonzales and sophomore doubles partner Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS), who were defeated, 4-6, 7-6, 9-11. It was one of two doubles matches that went to a third set, with sophomores Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) and Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) fighting back for a 4-6, 6-3, 12-10 win, which was a great momentum builder for the Falcons. Freshman Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS), who recorded a 6-3, 7-5 win, and sophomore Natalie Perez (Lakewood HS), who earned a 7-5, 6-4 decision, also won in singles play.

Cerritos vs. Reedley: The Tigers were forced to surrender two team points because they only had five players, while top singles player Clare Frye had to withdraw her singles match against Judan due to an injury. In doubles play, Flores and Perez picked up a come-from-behind 4-6, 6-0, 10-6 win in the #2 position, with Judan and Ilagan posting a 7-6, 6-1 win. Ilagan and Perez combined to lose just five games in their straight set wins.
