Aside from one singles match, the Cerritos College women's tennis team had no trouble defeating host Long Beach City College on Thursday. The Falcons (10-3, 5-2) defeated the Vikings, 9-0 and have an important week ahead of them. On Tuesday, the team will conclude a suspended match against Mt. San Antonio College before taking them on in their regularly scheduled match. Both teams are tied for second place in conference, while Mt. SAC holds a 4-2 lead heading into doubles play. They follow that with a home match against El Camino College, who is also 5-2 in SCC play before heading north to compete in the Fresno Tournament.

In the win over LB City, both Nina Pacquing (Cabrillo HS) and Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS) each won their singles matches by 6-0, 6-0 scores, with Stef Flores (Golden Valley Charter HS) dropping just one game. Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) surrendered two games in the first set, but then posted a shutout in the second set, while Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) earned a 6-1, 6-3 win in the top position on the ladder.

The only close match came in the #3 position, as Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) moved up in the ladder and had to go three sets to remain undefeated on the year. She dropped a 5-7 decision to Judith Aguilar, but came back for a 6-4 win in the second set and posted a 12-10 win in the tie-breaker.

The Falcons switched up their top two doubles teams, with Judan pairing up with Ilagan for the first time and they recorded an 8-5 win. The two were doubles partners last season and went 12-10 on the year. Flores moved down to play with Perez and the result was an 8-0 win, with Gonzales and Jessica Alcayde (Cabrillo HS) earning an 8-1 win.
