W. Tennis: Team remains undefeated after win

The Cerritos College women's tennis team remained undefeated on the year after they posted a 7-1 road win against Grossmont College on Tuesday. The Falcons (5-0) will open South Coast Conference play on Thursday when they travel to Victor Valley College for a 2:00 p.m. contest.

After opening the match by easily winning all three doubles matches, Cerritos won four of the five singles matches that were completed. The #6 singles match was halted due to darkness, although sophomore Jessica Alcayde (Cabrilo HS) was leading, 6-1, 5-0. She teamed with sophomore Staci Gonzales (Vista del Lago HS) for an 8-2 doubles win, while Gonzales was extended to a third set in her singles match against Selina Budinger, 6-1, 3-6, 6-1.

Winning in straight sets in three other matches, sophomore Samantha Judan (Bishop Montgomery HS) led the way at the top of the ladder with a 6-2, 6-3 win, while freshman Nina Pacquing (Cabrillo HS) earned her second straight win with a 7-5, 6-4 win in the #3 position. Sophomore Rianne Ilagan (Bellflower HS) remained undefeated in both singles and doubles, as he recorded a 6-3, 6-2 win after teaming with sophomore Natali Perez (Lakewood HS) for an 8-1 win in the #2 doubles position.
